Highland Avenue Community Church of the Nazarene in Rancho Cucamonga, California

“Dear Friends and Families of Highland Avenue Community Church,

I just wanted to give you an update regarding where we are in the process of finding a new pastor. We met with the current pastoral candidate and spouse Monday night for a face-to-face interview. Rollie Miller, our District Superintendent, was also present. The search committee all agreed that they would be a great fit for our church so we voted to pursue the next step in the process with them. It was a unanimous decision. Rollie the following night and informed me that the pastoral candidate would also like to pursue the next step as well. This is great news!

So, what’s the next step? The next step involves having the candidate and family come to our church on a Sunday so that you, the church congregation, can meet them. Because the pastoral candidate is currently an active pastor, they can’t come for a Sunday morning service. Therefore, we are excited to announce that we have scheduled a Sunday evening service for September 6, 2015, at 5:00pm with a potluck to follow. This will allow them to come and spend time in worship with us, preach, and then spend time in fellowship so that you can get to know them on a more personal level. We are asking if at all possible to make a point to coming to the service. This will not only be an opportunity for you to meet them, but it will give them an opportunity to meet our church family and see who we are.

Please keep in mind that it’s still not a done deal. What this means is that at this point, Rollie (the D.S.), the Leadership Council, and the pastoral candidate have all agreed to having this person serve as our new pastor. The final piece in the puzzle is a final vote from you, the congregation. We will have an official vote on Sunday morning September 13, 2015, for church members. A 2/3-majority vote in favor of their installment will make it official. We will have a new pastor!

However, please keep in mind that any of the above parties can change their mind at any point until then. We don’t anticipate that. I only say that to ask that you continue to pray for our congregation, the Leadership Council, Rollie, and the pastoral candidate and their family for continued guidance and clear direction from God through the remainder of this process.

We are obviously very excited and it sounds like they are as well. You may have noticed that I have tried hard not to provide any identifying information. It is still important that we retain our “code of silence” until he comes and speaks to us at which point it becomes public knowledge. Again, since he’s an active pastor we want to be as sensitive as possible to them and their current congregation since there are going to be some difficult conversations for them in the coming weeks.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please don’t hesitate to ask. Short of any identifying information, we will tell you anything you want to know about our interview with the candidate.”

Leadership Council Secretary
