This week at Highland, we continued the sermon from last week on “Acceptable, Pleasing Offerings.” This week will focus on tenderheartedness, treasure and being a living sacrifice.
On the 4th of July, we celebrated our nations freedom with explosive charges and fireworks… AWESOME! We also celebrate our Freedom experienced in God. We celebrate Christ’s sacrifice that has been freely given for our sin and frees us to lovingly and gratefully give back to God things that are pleasing and acceptable to Him:
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (MSG) 6 Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. 7 I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.
The words the Message uses here are a great illustration of how our gifts do not come from being forced, but the pleasing gift to God comes from a delight on our part to give back to God.
