THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Our Advent message series this year is called, “The Stable Influence.” The influence of the birth of Jesus in the Bethlehem stable can hardly be calculated. It marks the moment when God stepped into human history and became, “Immanuel” or “God with us.”
On Sunday we will light the Bethlehem Candle of Love and I’ll share a message entitled, “From Bethlehem to Calvary.” We are going to look at the question… How far is it from Bethlehem to Calvary?
Everyone loves Christmas with its bright lights, upbeat music and gifts in pretty paper. People who may give very little attention to God and the Church pay a great deal of attention at Christmas time.
The sad fact is many tend to leave Jesus in the cradle the rest of the year. They prefer the cradle to the cross. But you can’t separate the two. It is only a short journey from Christmas to Easter… from Bethlehem to the cross.
It was Bethlehem that held the promise of eternal life… but it was Jerusalem and Calvary six miles down the road and 33 years later that held the gift of eternal life.
Don’t miss this special Advent message and this opportunity to celebrate Jesus’ birth!
This year we are offering a free Advent devotional guide entitled, Advent: A Calendar of Devotions by Deborah Westbrook.
You are invited to pick up your copy in the church foyer or from the church office. The book features an inspirational devotion for each day in Advent.
