This is the final message in our current series on “Cultivating Character.” In this series, we’ve looked at the character qualities of courage, radical love, discipline, contentment, endurance, vision and fairness.
In this last message, I want to focus on “The Character of Christ.” In the Bible, Jesus Himself tells us what He is like. One of the best self-descriptions of Jesus is in John 10:10-15.
Jesus is a great teacher. So, knowing that most people think in pictures, He gives a picture of Himself as a good shepherd. He clearly tells us that He is not a thief who comes to steal the sheep and He is not a hired hand who doesn’t protect the sheep.
In contrast, Jesus says in John 10:14-15,
“I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me- (15) just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father- and I lay down My life for the sheep.”
In this message we will talk about how the character of Jesus, as seen in John 10 and other scriptures, implies very specific benefits for followers of Jesus like adoption into God’s family and confidence in God’s love.
It takes character to do God’s will. God offers to Christ followers the very character of Christ. It is the Holy Spirit who writes Jesus’ own character traits on our hearts.
Join us for the conclusion to this series.
