THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT, DEC. 14…
We lit the Shepherd’s Candle of Joy. This is the pink or rose-colored candle in the Advent wreath.
By tradition, the Third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday from the Latin word meaning “to rejoice.” It is meant to symbolize our joy and gladness in the promised Redemption we find in Jesus.
In this Advent season, we are seeking to move beyond “Season’s Greetings,” “Happy Holidays” and the treasured trappings of Christmas to lift up Jesus as the real reason for the season.
This week in a message entitled,“The Reason Is Joy,” we will look at the “Good news of great joy” that the angel delivered to shepherds as they were out tending their sheep.
Of all the people involved in the story of the First Christmas, we relate to the shepherds the best. We identify with their work ethic and their willingness to accept the good news. They go at once to worship the Savior and then they share the news with all who will listen.
Join us as we celebrate the Joy that Jesus brings to our lives and as we lift up some contemporary lesson from the example of the shepherds.
