In this message, we conclude our series called, “What Following Jesus Means.” We’re looking at five words that describe what it means to be a follower. So far we have looked at
- and “Family.”
It is fitting on the Sunday before Thanksgiving that we looked at the word, “worshiper,” in a message entitled, “We Are Worshipers.” Followers of Christ are to worship God like Jesus did. In this message, we will be talking about how you can live a life of worship. That’s because worship is more than just singing or coming to church. Your worship affects every aspect of your living. Everybody worships… they just don’t all worship God. Some people worship idols. Some people worship themselves. Some people worship wealth or possessions. Some people worship their jobs or careers.
In order to get an understanding of what the Bible says about worship we will look at the three questions:
- What is worship?
- Why should you worship?
- How should you worship?
These will help us think more deeply about worship.
True worship always begins by saying, “Thank You” to God. As you prepare for our time of worshiping together spend time thinking about how the Psalmist described worship and how we are to enter God’s presence. In Psalm 100:4 (NIV) he said,
“We enter His (God’s) gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.”
This kind of thanksgiving is a key to worship because it forces you to stop and look back on what God has already done for you. Spend time thinking about His past acts of faithfulness and provision in your life.
